3D Paper Tricks Embossing Folders Tutorial

Hi everyone!

Many of you have been asking for a closer look at our popular Paper Tricks embossing folders for the Cuttlebug. Today we’re going to walk you through the steps to score and fold each of these fancy rosettes and pleated borders so you can create beautiful projects and party décor!

If you missed out on getting Paper Tricks in January, this blog post is perfect timing because they are now back in stock on hsn.com: http://bit.ly/papertricks. Keep in mind that you will need one 6×13 A plate (http://shrsl.com/?~7vpj) and two 6×13 B plates (http://shrsl.com/?~7vpk) to use this set.

These folders make the days of hand scoring feel so far away, and we absolutely love using them. Here’s a look at some more projects we created with this collection.

Check back next Tuesday for an exclusive sneak peek of what’s coming up on HSN in March. We have SO much to share with you!

    Hi Ana,

I have been shopping online all day at HSN com. I wanted to know if your going to offer your new mix and match folders and die set with out the Cuttlebug. I already own Anna Griffin Cuttlebug. I hope so I really want it. I called HSN they couldn’t tell me how or when. Thanks

  6. Linda Valoy says:

Hello Anna and blog ladies. I have been making Christmas cards all week since I have been snowed in. Got the Christmas folders and lovely heart folders this week. I enjoyed the tutorial on the paper tricks folders. I do not have them but I learned how to make the pinwheels by hand. I always made my pinwheels and cut out the piece that folds back to make them look like a star. I like your method better.

  7. Linda says:

Anna just wanted you to no I been doing
pop up card’s for St Patrick’s day for the
2 granddaughter. I cut out the green glitter
paper and put it on top of the card’s then put
4by6 pictures of them in last year’s St Patrick photo’s look’s nice. Now I have to work on the inside . I found what I needed
in all my cartridges’. will send you picture when there done thanks Linda

  8. Mary Sonta says:

THANK YOU ANNA ! This tutorial and any you can make help us to use your products so much better!
I received my Card Tricks yesterday and was thrilled to see your tutorial. Thank you so very much!
I have been a fan since you were on another shopping channel and LOVE YOUR ELEGANT Products. You are an inspiration to all of us to be able to make such lovely projects!

  9. Sherry says:

Anna I love all of your products and wait patiently for you to arrive o HSN, I just have one question for you. The new cartridges that came with the blue tooth are they all just to be used with the pen, because I tried cutting them and it does’t work. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong. Love watching you.

  10. Sherri says:

Thanks for all the tips on using the folders. I also want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for the Cricut digital designs. I love all the new cards and the writings. I am still trying to figure out how you did every thing on HSN last time. Is there a feature on the Cricut that will be coming out soon about the drawing?

  11. Patti Garcia says:

I am so excited to have you answer me. I will be waiting patiently. I don’t even care about the cost. I want them!!!

  12. Donna Keyser says:

Love the folders, but now I see I have to pay $50 more for the plates..:( ;( be awhile before I can use these…I tried them on my regular plate and got the practice down…

  13. Diane Cooper says:

Please make a bundle of your flowers, the 3-d ones. I always run out and can not find any on the internet anywhere. I can not find your products anywhere when you are sold out on HSN. We need more of your products. It is hard to use any products that are not yours. You have such great quality that all the others look cheap. I love all your products. Thank you for giving us such wonderful things to work with,

  14. Patricia Barrow says:

I’m looking forward to playing with these, but I ran out of money buying all your other goodies on HSN. Can’t wait to get these next time…

  15. Jonie Isenberg says:

You should make a tutorial on how to do tutorials. I watch a lot of them, and usually have to set speed to 1.25 or 1.5. Most people making tutorials are not prepared when they start. I hate that. I think you should be prepared and not have to look for the items you need for your project. Having all items needed at hand is a must. I hate having to wait for person teaching to make decisions or look for things they should have had ready before starting tutorial. Am I being too critical? Maybe filming a tutorial is harder than I think!

  16. Mary Parker says:

These are great. I love the interchangeable embossing folders and these long folders. I knew I wanted them without watching tv. A friend came over today and wanted to order both and couldn’t find either on HSN even to be notified when they’re back in stock. I hope they’re back soon.

  17. Marsha says:

I’m interested in the larger envelope that you sell for the cards. Will these be available on HSN again or can we buy them on your website?
Is there a cartridge that you could make your own? Thanks Anna love all your products very elegant. Would like to see more home décor love the monogram items. can’t wait to make something.

  18. Shellie Fontana says:

We are kindred spirits, Grama Pei! I ‘think on’ the tutorials, BLOG posts, and Cricut Page features, deciding which of my FOTOS to coordinate with my Anna papers, die folders; and, which Explore project to try next. Isn’t it wonderful se have this opportunity with Anna’s innovative, practical, and beautiful products?! It’s also so nice finding helpful ideas and answers from fan-friends like you and others! Happy crafting, friend!

  19. Becky H. says:

This is perfect timing. I just received my folders in the mail yesterday. This tutorial is very helpful. I will be watching for the Cricut Explore New Anna Griffin designs to be available by themselves as I already have the first Explore, which is so much fun to use.

  20. Ramona says:

    Hi Anna,

I just love these tutoriaIs! Ido have a request though. Is there any way possible to add a category to the menu on this site to include all of your, “How To Tutorials”, inclding the ones on HSN? They are so helpful. I just find myself all over the place when trying to search for them. Pintrest, You Tube, HSN and your Blog are where I am finding links or where they are posted. This would make it much easier to find things for those of us that follow your Blog.

  21. arlene ranaldi says:

Anna, You did a ‘split’ on the monogram and pulled the center away on HSN.
Could you please give me more info on that?
I am still awaiting my Design content but would like to know how to do this. Love the content and am excited to get started. Arlene

  22. Shelby Pagel says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!
Love everything , and especially the shades of pink roses…Please, please, please make more of the 3-D rose stickers, I use them so much…Look forward to the March Show !

  23. Gloria Cabral says:

Hi Anna, I’m waiting to get these in the mail. Hopefully today. Thank you for everything you do, you bring so much joy to so many people.

  24. Jeanne Tipton says:

Hi, Anna, I’ve really enjoyed using these folders. I prefer using paper to cardstock. I prefer heavier cardstock for die cutting and embossing but paper for these. lol
Looking forward to a great March HSN show.
    Love to Georgie.

  25. Shelley Dayman says:

*** Anna…you and I go back a long time with the intricate paper folding! They weren’y easy, but they were gorgeous!!! Just saw your email and the tuturial! Ran and ordered immediately…So many ideas!
The kind of triangles look like kerchief edges, you can put flowers on top, or fighter jets for little boys,,put stickers on wings
,and the one with the center plaque, is like a winner award, or new baby announcement! I can’t wait…Thank you!

  26. Grama Pei says:

What a wonderful way to end my day! Thank you for the delightful and inspiring tutorial, Anna! Now, instead of going to bed, I want to stay up all night and play with paper! – (must discipline myself… rats.) — But, TOMORROW night!- cant wait! I will think of this video over and over tomorrow to get me through the non-fun parts of the day, as a ‘carrot’ to pull me past them, and will thoroughly love getting to work with the papers after the day is done! Sometimes, when I see your videos, I tell myself that I have been given “permission to have fun, by Anna Griffin, herself!” ha!

  27. Irene Alexander says:

It was a good day today. I received three packages from HSN of AG items. One being the paper trick embossing folders. So looking forward to using them in my paper projects. Thanks for the tutorial!

  28. HollyG says:

    Miss Anna,

Thank you for posting this fantastic tutorial, it sure does give great inspiration and
uses for your Cuttlebug folders. A great addition to the collection indeed.

The tip about the adhesive is much appreciated as well! I always look forward to your blog!

  29. Tom Gingras says:

You can access Anna’s YouTube channel through her Facebook page. If you look below the “Posts to Page” section, you’ll see the YouTube logo. Click on it. Most of the videos are sneak peeks from past appearances on HSN. Go to the bottom of the page- there’s a powder blue bar marked “see more”. Click on that, and more videos will appear. Keep doing that, and look for her how- to videos. I think most of them are toward the end. HTH

  30. Jeorgette says:

Thanks for the tips. The tutorial sheet was pretty easy to follow but you gave some extra tips that will really help in the future.

Love these folders! They’re so much fun to use!

  31. Jennifer M says:

I have a request can we get the artful patterns collection cuttlebug folders separate from the xmas folders? Maybe the will be on the line-up on hsn for next month. Thanks for considering.

  32. Arleen Cappatocio says:

Thanks so much for the tutorial. It helps a lot when I can watch you do it. It seems to me you talked about other tutorials you had done? Could you please tell me where they are? Thank you.

  33. Betsy Carty says:

Hey Anna. Thanks for making the tutorial and for giving us examples too. They are beautiful. I will be waiting for next weeks blog and try not to be anxious. Have a great week. Love and blessings, Betsy from NC 🙂

  37. Stephanie S. says:

  38. Debbie L says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! For the wonderful tutorials. I love these folders and all of your products. I’m so excited for any new product :0)

  39. Melody Lane says:

Thanks for this video Anna, I bought these from HSN and was going to do a video last week with them, I felt like I need to do a tutorial on using them all and then do a project with them. Now, I will do a project and link them to your tutorial video, thanks for the inspiration I felt like I had writers block with these.

  40. Anna Griffin says:

Those will be in Design Space as Make it Now projects in late March. We’ll make sure to let everyone know when they are done.

  41. Anna Griffin says:

I use ATG tape from Scotch – it’s so strong it will lay carpet. I haven’t found any other adhesives that are strong enough other than hot glue or ATG tape.

  42. Nancy Mitchell says:

Where can I buy the a and b plates and also the green rubber embossing mats..I need some supplies! Thanks…please answer!!!

  43. Patti Garcia says:

I have the folders and have started using them but the tutorial is really helping. Love the 12inch embossing folders and hope to see more of them. It would be great if they will be available with and without the plates as a ;lot of us already have that part. Thanks! When is the Home Décor going to be available? I have been wanting new sheets and am trying to wait for you!

  44. Christy M says:

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I really appreciate you taking the time to do these for us. They are truly helpful.

  45. Carol says:

Thanx for the great “how to” video, Anna. You mentioned a tip in a previous video that is also very helpful when making the rosettes … and that was to add a thin strip of double sided tape to the back side of the inside edge. It really helps to hold the rosette in place as you add your center piece. Another great tip for making smaller rosettes is to emboss the full size, and then cut your paper in half the long way … these thinner strips allow you to make two small rosettes.

BTW … I totally love these 3-D Paper Tricks Embossing Folders. They are such a creative addition to cards, scrapbook pages, and they make great photo boarders too.

  46. J Meisen says:

I have this and love them. One suggestion…I was having problems with one of them, I couldn’t get it right until I went back to the instructions and realized I needed two strips to do the rosette correctly. I’ve started writing instructions on them with a Sharpie, maybe in the future, there could be some basic instructions printed on the folders themselves. Keep them coming, they’re awesome!

  47. Carol Babst says:

Thank you for the tutorial! I figured out how to use them, but the video is a great tool to remind me.

  48. Karen Martin says:

Just wanted to let you know that I now look forward to Tuesdays because I know your blog post will be waiting for me in my mailbox. Thank you for the pictures and videos, they keep me inspired and using your wonderful products. And they make other people think I am a skilled crafter 🙂 Really looking forward to March 24th!

  49. Ramona says:

Thanks so much for the tutorials, Anna! These help and are much appreciated. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for craft month!

  50. Deepa Black says:

Thank you Anna!! This is a great reference tutorial.
I’m sure I’ll come back to it again and again!!
Request, a tutorial to do a beautiful monogram on cushion with our new monogram package- pretty please!
Thank you for inspiring us every day!

  51. Maureen zibelman says:

Can I buy the scored paper anywhere? I’ve used them from your kit & love them. I do not have the machine to make the scores myself.

  52. Karen Martin says:

Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. I know for the one you recommend using hot glue because there is only a small surface area to glue. Do you have any recommendations for the others or will our Xyron adhesive runners be strong enough? That’s what I use for the rosettes in the card kits, but I am always a little afraid they are going to pull apart 🙂 Thank you for your wonderful products!!

  53. Diana Kessler says:

I am awaiting my new Cricut Explore Air machine. I have one of the earliest Cricut machines, but I never did get around to working with it. Since I am a newbie, will it be difficult to learn? I have an Ipad and several of the early cartridges. Please advise. Thanks bunches!!

  54. Patti says:

Thank you so much for your great tutorials! I really love your embossing folders and am hoping you will have more 12″ ones soon. Would also love to see a magnetic “A” Plate for your pretty Cuttlebug.

  55. Karen Walker says:

I purchased these fabulous folders and needed this tutorial. Thank you!! Your items are the best! So gorgeous and classy. Love it!

  56. Toni says:

These lessons are great! And can’t wait to start seeing those sneak peeks.

Anna — Question on another subject: Are the samples of the scrapbook pages you showed on 2/18 posted anywhere? We tried taping them but kept missing them. Watched every single presentation – saw or learned something new each time

  57. Kaye Lystad Kirk says:

Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial, Anna. Now I can be confident in knowing I’m folding my paper properly. I am very grateful to you for making this video.

  58. Nancy Haines says:

Thanks so for these tutorials…I learn so much and having SO MUCH fun with my Explore and your new folders! Waiting for my new designs for the Explore from HSN. My Happy Place!

  59. Patricia Watling says:

I see how the ribbon and border was used to cover the seam in the Thank You card, and how the border was used to “elongate” the rosette on the scrapbook page. Love it!
